Why I WILL Be Attending Rich Jerk’s Playboy Party!

By Ross Goldberg | June 24, 2007

I am sick and tired of this holier than thou crap people put up on their blogs. I have openly stated disgust at the marketing tactics of the Rich Jerk and promise to knock some sense into him when I see him. That’s just the way I am. Somebody pisses me off, I let them know how and why.

I have seen two blog posts that have really set me off. Internet Marketers are blaming the Rich Jerk for violence against women? That is simply the silliest thing I’ve ever heard. Playboy does not stand for violence. My father was one of the first men to own a video store that rented porn and I’ve seen some of the most disgusting things ever created. None of them had the Playboy name on them.

Don’t get me wrong, I am very much against rape and violence against women. 4 women in my family have been involved in violent encounters and it truly disgusts me. I simply don’t feel that Playboy is an advocate of that type of pornography.

I am happily married with 3 small children. In fact, today was the birthday of my oldest daughter. We had a small army of kids playing at my house for the birthday bash of the year. Everyone had a blast. To me, this event is business, strictly business.

Why would you throw away an opportunity to hang out with the internet marketing elite?

I have met many of the people attending this event and I’m proud to work with them. They are not horrible people and do nothing but help others make their way in earning their living online. Mike Filsaime is one of the nicest guys I’ve had the pleasure of talking to. Tom Beal has a story similar to my own and we are both happy and lucky to still be alive at this point. None of us are poster boys for porn.

While I respect the perspective of some people not wanting to be associated with Playboy, my business is more important to me and I’m going to happily attend this event.

In fact, my wife might be there with me…

Bottom line: Playboy is not the heart of all evil and can’t force someone into hurting another human being. Disgusting, sick, horrible people are committing rapes and other nasty crimes all the time. Playboy doesn’t advocate that violence or disgusting behavior.

I’d love to hear your thoughts…

You miss the whole point. There is no need to meet at the Playboy Mansion to get the cream of the crop together.

Many of the “best in Internet Marketing” claim they are Christians… and agree that Rich Jerk does not do their sort of marketing.

It just sounds to me like another way to make a buck, but naively at the cost of ones reputation. Then again, maybe it doesn’t matter.

    Hi Dave,

You miss the point, as well.

#1 I receive no commission on any sales.

#2 It is a good cause and I’m proud to be associated with it.

#3 I’m Jewish, and my faith has nothing to do with it.

I also received a comment I denied stating that I’m a nerd and won’t get any “play”.

To clarify here, I’m a happily married man and didn’t want any in the first place.

Thanks for your comments, they are very much appreciated!

    Hi Ross,

I made a similar post earlier… I’ll see you at the mansion.

    Hi Ross

I posted about this on my SalesLeadSecrets.com Blog.

Personally I find it the most offensive, crass and unprofessional marketing piece I have seen in my 7 years online.

No wonder my offline marketing friends see Internet Marketers as snake oil salesman and refuse to take them seriously.

Try printing the RJ trash in the real world and see where it gets you.

I unsubscribed from several lists this last week as well as cancelling various subscriptions - including one from a marketer who has made over $20,000 from me in the last few years.

As a marketing professional it strikes me as utter stupidity to alienate the female demographic
    of a list.

As a man and a Father, I find it reprehensible that anyone could think such sexist language is acceptable.

I shared these same feelings with my subscribers and received SCORES of emails from people saying they too had unsubscribed from several lists as a result.

Meanwhile the guru’s like lemmings are rushing to ‘jump off the cliff’ together.

While falling from that cliff, I’ll be enjoying every moment.

I’m very much looking forward to hanging out with Tim, John, Mike, Frank, and the others that will be in attendance.

    I’ve personally alienated nobody.

My emails and recommendations were not worded in Jerk’s voice, but my own.

I see this as a huge opportunity for any internet marketer and can’t wait for the party.

    Chris,

We all know that you don’t get paid cash, but you are eligible to receive free tickets worth nearly $2000 each. That, my friend, is compensation any way you look at it. As for the charity…that’s a whole other story.

    Actually Jennifer, I’m Ross.

Chris is against the event, too. I was eligible for receiving tickets before promoting the event.

Since when do you need permission to send a check to a charity. From my experience, they would normally simply say “Thank You” and move on.

The fact remains that the event is in the name of charity and I’m assuming that Rich Jerk will be sending a check for all of the profits after the event is over.

    Hey Ross,
I think there’s a definite clash of paradigms here.

Some are skipping on the event based on their principles/personal beliefs, while the rest of us are a little more open-minded.

I like your comeback that “You’re Jewish”.

I think a lot of people don’t recognize what Kelly Felix/Rich Jerk has done and that’s get into the skin of the persona he’s created.

You might not believe everything you watch on TV, so why should this be any different.

Please, for those who’re staunchly opposed to this, take a chill pill!

I think the tenets of Christianity is based on duality of choice and free will.

Coming down hard is a personal choice you can choose to make. But imposing that choice on others takes it to a whole new level.

[…] There’s a bit of controversy from some Internet Marketers about boycotting the event as it seem to be promoting immorality or …I’m not entirely clear why they’re against it. [Read Tim Erway and Ross Goldberg’s posts]. I can understand what their detractors are saying, but I don’t really follow their line of logic. […]
