I unfollowed 10,224 people yesterday.
Watch the video to find out why.
This link was where I was able to do that.

Hi Ross,
Never really knew of you before until today, but I like what I see. I agree with your video 100%. I turned on “Auto-Follow” a couple of weeks ago and then turned it off a week later. What a disaster that was!
Hey Michael,
I fought with myself over the decision to do that, but I must have followed one spammer too many because my twitter stream was FULL of spam.
I can’t tell you how nice it is to actually see what my friends are up to again.
Agree Ross
Thing for me is why does Twitter allow these automated feeds like tweetlater and twitterfeed.
Personally I only tweet from the web and enter into conversation.
It definetely is an interesting exercise and careful strategy is required.I cannot understand however why you just do not box the people you want to hear from on with twitterdeck. Then you do not need to defollow people
I had that all set up. Problem is, when you’re following over 10,000 people it isn’t manageable or enjoyable. I nearly stopped using twitter as a communication tool.
I’m very happy where things are now and am enjoying reconnecting with my friends.
Ross,
Thanks for answering my question in the video.
i had never heard of huitter.com.
for now Ill just have to stick to manually unfollowing simply because I m not ready to give up the value and diversity and insight I get from so many of the people Ive chosen to follow that arent following me back .
I agree with your move especially since i think its the natural evolution when twitter continues to be overrun by spammers.
Now, when i get pissed to see alot of spam , I spend a minute not just unfollowing but BLOCKING them.
Blocking can raise a flag to twitter admin to kill the account entirely.
That not just cleans my view,
but also can help clean the spammers account out of twitter altogether thus helping the other real people like us.
thanks and take care

Ah, that explains why I can’t reply to your old DMs.
So you are still following me right Ross
LOL
miss ya honey we will talk soon.

I was wondering where you were going to land on this issue. I only just started using twitter seriously and turned on autofollow using tweetlater as I’d seen Perry Belchers presentation about it.
Then I found John Reese and Mike Filsaimes posts about it. So I decided to run it for a week and see how it looked. I just turned it off. I doesn’t look good
I’m going to see how many followers I get without autofollow. Must admit the thought of 15k people tweeting at me (based on most of what i’ve seen tweeted) is pretty nauseating…
