  1. Great reminder for people Ross. I used to do this back in the golden days, had tons of software and websites for real estate. Don’t have that problem right now as I’m scraping to get by! But, it comes down to reducing consumerism, which I am totally into. In this case, it makes life simpler to make sure you are making use of the programs you buy before buying more. Is it okay to sell off that kind of stuff – ebooks, programs? My intuition says no…

    Thanks for this post, Ross.

It’s a good reminder to us, especially the newbies (like me) to not buy everything that comes down the pike.

As my mentor, Ken McArthur, reminds me- now it’s time to start implementing. Which I am learning, but the techie stuff isn’t that easy for me though.

    Best,

    -K

    Hi Ross –

Thanks for sharing your wisdom and experience. I am new to IM and have tried to be very judicious in my purchases. It’s always nice to have your frugal ways validated by an expert!!

  4. Hi Ross,

Thanks for the kick. :) I was looking for something earlier today for a new niche and couldn’t find it because I haven’t been sorting lately. I guess I needed the reminder to get things organized again. As for buying, I got rid of all my memberships except two, and unless it’s something I really need right that minute or it’s a deal that’s way too good to pass up, I’ve got myself trained to not buy. I just wish it hadn’t taken me 10 years to figure out!

    Have a great day,

    Lena

  5. Joann Snell says:

Thanks Ross, good points. I just have to stop buying also. And implement a system to organize what I already have.
    Have a good one!

  6. Steve says:

    You buy…
    I buy…
    We all buy…
I believe the trick is to implement…
    Implement immediately…
Before you move on to the next big thing…

  7. If it took me about six months time of continuous downloading all the ebooks and softwares, just think of how long it would take to read it and implement it! I have organized it all into about 100 categories. The problem I have is by the time I get to reading it, it’s already old news and time to download again. Care must be taken not to waste time, money and effort because it’s too easy to do. As for me, I must be frugal with my money, but time and effort are two more things to watch out for.

    Hi, Ross -

Yes, I did it too, but I was a cheap-skate – I had an enormous collection of FREEBIES! You know, gift membership sites, or subscribe incentives, that sort of thing. It finally hit me that if I wasn’t going to do anything with it, I was wasting my time and their bandwidth by even getting it.

I’m in sort of a transition right now… I’m not even sure I want to be an Internet Marketer! But I do very much want a second income. I guess we’ll just see how things work.

    Gene.

  9. Jean Mandel says:

Ross thanks for this reminder. I have so much stuff on my hard drive that needs to be put to use.

I have got better than I was in the beginning because I have found people on the internet that I trust and do not have the urge to purchase everything that comes to my email box.

The key for me is putting this stuff to action…:)

  10. Ross, as a newbie (about a year or so), I agree wholeheartedly. For me, it was a matter of organizing both the hard drive as delicious.com where I keep most of my bookmarks. The biggest problem is digesting all the information out there and making sense out of it. Who is right? Who is wrong? What system works, what doesn’t? I think you have to experiment, especially for us in a niche market. It was many, many months before we “hit” on what works for us. But I had the advantage of being a salesman and looked at Web marketing as farming. Too many give up before they accomplish anything or don’t take the time to learn and constantly update. One thing I find with the economic slump is the businesses who are slowing down are finally starting to listen to our suggestions in Web marketing. I am busier than ever!

  11. Tim Johnson says:

Ross, wonderful tips. I use Google Docs to help organize me. Great place for notes and PDFs.

  12. Gilles says:

I should definitely sort out the gazillion ebooks I have, as well as sort out the different categories of stuff (software, scripts, graphics, etc…).

The biggest challenge is to know exactly where you are, identify specifically what needs to be learned, see if it’s not already on the hard drive. Implement it, check the progression. Re-assess and see what needs to be learned next.

  13. It’s amazing how the simple things can make a difference.

Gilles – knowing where you are is simple enough if you think about it the right way. What do you have and what do you need?

A bigger list? Set up more squeeze pages.

    More traffic? Do more marketing.

More supplies? Sell more stuff ;-)

Don’t over complicate things and you’ll be amazed with the results you can get from simple changes.

  14. Sue says:

Thanks for the info Ross! I had to pause your video half-way through to answer the postman at the door – Infomillionaire just arrived. LOL. We just started our reality show 2 months ago and haven’t purchased that many products yet…trying to figure out how to create our own products.

I appreciate the info and look forward to the masters seminar in Feb.

  15. Jim Donovan says:

    Ross,
Great stuff as always. It’s so easy to get overwhelmed, especially if we, like Kevin above, start thinking we have to do it all.

If I’ve learned one thing in my years in business, usually the hard way, it’s that we ALL need to delegate.

Do what you do well, let someone else do the rest. And, as you suggest, use what you buy and implement.

With that pearl of wisdom, I think I’ll go back to re-reading Traffic Manifesto:-)

    Stay well my friend,
    Jim

  16. Ross,
I thought I was the only one. Thank you for being so honest and telling me that you do this too! You are one of the few IM peeps that I trust and follow. I am now “cleaning and organizing” all my stuff. I swear I will not buy one more thing until I know exactly what I own.
I also pledge to implement at least two tasks today as well to move my business forward.
Keep the good stuff coming – you inspire me.

    Ross,
Thanks again for sharing a wee bit of wisdom – that goes a long way. I appreciate your insight into struggles that are pretty common and then addressing those with some solid solutions. You manage to teach without making us feel totally stupid and I’m glad for that!
    Blessings!

  18. Hi Ross,

Thanks for being so down-to-earth and “living in your customer’s shoes.” I feel like you totally get where I am coming from as a newbie to IM. If I was writing a book about how to be authentic in business and marketing, you would be on the front cover! Thanks for all that you do Ross :-)

  19. Julia Rosa says:

    Hi Ross,

Thanks for the great message. I find that Internet Marketing hoopla is like the new form electronic crack since there is so much “hype” out there and it’s easy to get sucked in by the marketing Hoover systems and techniques du jour — because honestly sometimes we are looking for that magic bullet.

What I’ve found is that newbies and pros need to to be very pragmatic and not fall for every ebook and the latest and greatest system, technique or formula. And don’t look for that instant gratification, you’ll spend more time working on that than working on real results.

What many of us really need to do is resort to old fashion tire-kickin’ and be very focused on what you want to achieve with the tools or systems that you are using.

Thanks for honesty in this world of hyperbole It’s much needed. All the best,

    Julia
